Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata or Medfly) is present in the southwest of Western Australia affecting anybody that grows fruit on their properties.

Since its detection in 1895, Medfly have become established in WA, particularly in urban, peri-urban and rural areas where fruit is grown.

Over time, backyard and commercial growers have come under pressure from an increasing fruit fly population. Medfly affect people’s enjoyment of growing fruit in their backyards. They impact on the viability of commercial fruit enterprises which suffer considerable production losses.
